Gullane

The pretty village of Gullane is home to a British Open Championship golf course, as well as being a home to one of Scotland's best loved fictional characters, Quintin Jardine's Detective Chief Inspector Bob Skinner. The coast has some spectacular walks with unique features such as the migrating birds and sandy beaches in abundance.

Gullane Bents, the village's award-winning beach, is backed by large sand dunes and is part of the John Muir Way, a long-distance footpath along the coast between Musselburgh and Dunglass.

Gullane is the home of Muirfield golf course, which has hosted the British Open on numerous occasions, most recently in 2002. In addition to Muirfield, Gullane is the site of several other high-quality golf courses in the village and surrounding area. At the Gullane Golf Club, to which many local residents belong, three interesting 18-hole links courses straddle a large grassed-over volcanic plug. In addition Gullane Golf Club offers championship quality links courses with dramatic views across the Firth of Forth to Edinburgh and Fife. The three Courses do not have names but simply numbers which reflect their age. If you are visiting for golf 'Golf East Lothian' is a excellent directory of what is available locally.
