 Walking in East Lothian

Gullane Walks

The Gullane Area Community Council have produced a leaflet of walks for the area which can be downloaded by clicking the title.

Gullane Beach

Often known as Gullane Bents, popular with surfers, Gullane is just 20 miles from Edinburgh on the A198. It's also easy to reach by bus - a regular service runs to Gullane from Edinburgh - and the beach is just a short walk from the village.

The beautiful long beach is a great setting for a peaceful stroll. Edged by dunes, it offers superb views west to Edinburgh and you can enjoy spectacular sunsets.

Haddington Walks

Haddington is an ancient and attractive town of wide streets set around a compact centre. It has 129 buildings listed as historically interesting. Renowned as the birthplace of Alexander II, it is a good place to walk from and the leaflet can be downloaded by clicking the title.

Lammermuir Walks

A range of hills which form the southern boundary of East Lothian where the family had a Grouse Moor until the early 1900's. These rolling hills rise from the plains of East Lothian and run down into the Scottish Borders, representing a change in geology along the Southern Upland Fault. A leaflet can be downloaded by clicking the title.

The John Muir Way

The John Muir Way is a continuous path, which extends for almost 73km, linking East Lothian with the City of Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders.

The route offers magnificent views of East Lothian including much of the coastline and a chance to see the natural history and historic sites of this unique landscape. It links with many other paths, so small sections can be tackled on their own or as part of a circular route. A leaflet can be downloaded by clicking the title.
